Individuals are important

I don’t know about anyone else but sometimes I feel like I can do everything on my own. I feel like I don’t need others help to be happy and successful I am a strong independent person and I don’t need anyone else to accomplish what I want and be who I want to be. Does this attitude sound familiar? In families this can be a very harmful way of thinking because each person does influence each other. And no matter how much we want to believe it there is some things that you can’t do on your own.
Every person has unique traits and abilities that help to make a strong family. These differences don’t work to compete with each other but that’s to help to complete and uplift. Our family members help us to become better and we can help them do the same. That is if we arise to the opportunity. The actions of any family member effects not only the family unit but also all of the people in the family. That can be either positive for negative. I know that in my life I had many positive experiences with my siblings and parents and I can honestly say I attribute much of who I am to them.
One of the biggest influences on my life was my other sister. If fact it is pretty amazing BYU news actually did an article by Joe Hadfield that showed that people that grow up with sisters have better mental health! I can definitely see that in my life. My older sister showed me how to cope with life and she also helped me to see my worth and value in the world. This may not be true for every sister but many sisters do help you feel loved and understood and I am so grateful for that in my life. My brothers also had a huge impact on me as I grew up. They showed me along with my dad how boys should treat me with respect. I remember so many times I would come home and tell my bothers of a mean boy at school and they would be the first to stand up to protect me making it clean they would talk some sense into those “disrespectful jerks” in their own words. Those interactions helped me to see how I deserved better than someone who would mistreat me.

We don’t always think about it but the boys and girls in our family play unique and different roles. Now not every girl is the same and not every boy is the same but boy and girls in general have different strengths and that good! We should celebrate them! I need both my brothers and sisters to help me through life and they need me. I also need both my Dad and Mom. A family is always strongest when there is a Mother and Father leading the way that is because they help to compliment and complete each other. I believe that by divine design we help each other to grow to become there best self. In the Family: A Proclamation to The World it helps to express the importance of marriage and family it says “Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity.” I know that is true. I have seen happiness come as we hold to our families and all do our part to help and uplift each other.
