Making a Happy Marriage

Now that you are married your journey has just begun. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen good couples in my life think that marriage was the finish line and that it would fix all of their problems. Sadly because of this mentality when these couples reach inevitable problems and difficulties that accompany marriage they fall apart because they put their walls down. The good news is that does not have to be the case! We can have happy and successful marriage that is very fulfilling. To do this though you have to make a conscious effort and communicate with your new spouse.
You may have heard “Now you know and knowing is half the battle.” I relate this to the communication you have with your spouse and knowing expectations. One of these is the expectations is that your spouse will be loyal to you. It may seem weird but infidelity happens much often then it should. To often is even once but just with other problems in marriage there is ways to work through and in this case completely avoid it. The key for not having infidelity is to be completely loyal to them! This starts with even how to talk to and interact with others. You should not be alone with though of the opposite gender especially is you had an old flame with them or they make you feel special. Always run the other way in these situations. This includes virtual interactions like texting and Facebook. You may encounter some awkward situations making sure to avoid these encounters but you could just save your marriage and it will be well worth it.
Fidelity is that complete loyalty to someone in every way and it is connected with our intimacy needs. Both emotional and physical. That being said I want to say a quick word about physical intimacy. Although physical intimacy is not the most important thing in a marriage it can be a good measurement for how a marriage is going because physical intimacy requires love and respect and a lot of communication. You may scoff at that and think “whatever you can either are compatible or not compatible physically and that’s just how it is.” But you may be surprised with how difficult physical intimacy if for every couple. It is not as natural as you may think and it doesn’t happen just like the movies but if you communicate and respect each other physically intimacy can really be something that can help build unity and love in a marriage.
This is not only an important topic for spouses but also to teach future children. More and more young adults and teenagers are having physical intimacy outside of marriage and this is harming them and family units in general. It is so important to teach our children not to just not have physically interment relationships before marriage but to teach them something much deeper. First that their bodies are sacred and then the importance of fidelity because along with not cheating on your spouse while you are married it is amazing when someone can know that you waited for them. So many people think that just because you like someone for even love them that it makes it ok to have those relationships but if we have this attitude before marriage it could carry to after marriage making it easier to justify infidelity because you “love” another. Me must teach our children and ourselves that there is more to love than physical actions. It is loyalty and selflessness, and the amazing thing is you can start now to show this love to your spouse or spouse to be.
